Lars Strandh

Statement:
Curiosity is probably the main force for me to make my next painting. How will one experience the painting if it is the same size but a bluish black instead of red? What if the painted field was a slightly larger or smaller or wider – or a different size of the canvas and the same size of the painted field? Instead of a bluish black a darker red? What if I put two canvases together – or three?
The only way to experience the differences is to make a new painting with those changed qualities. So I do.

Bio:

Lars Strandh was born in 1961 in Gothenburg, Sweden.

He graduated 1997 from The Academy of Fine Art in Oslo, Norway, where he also lives and works.

Lars Strandh has showed widely throughout Europe and the USA.

Strandh has received several commissions and his works are to be found in many public and private collections. He has received several grants and was in 2007 awarded with the Norwegian Government’s Guaranteed Income for Artists.

Strandh has become known for his atmospheric multi layered color paintings “developed” out of thousands of horizontal thin brush strokes. In the last years he has continued to expand the color palette of his paintings, which at first glance can appear to be, but not are, monochrome. His work emanates a stillness that invites contemplation but also reflection in a perceptual and/or metaphysical way.
