The Lighthouse
STATEMENT
My paintings and works on paper tell moments of an internal story. Each painting stands as evidence of the search, exploration and endless possibilities of shape, line and color which feed the conversation until a balance has been found. While primarily abstract, my paintings are atmospheric yet structural with a hint of familiarity. They illustrate the visible and invisible connections between the weights, pulls and supports of the sculptural and symbolic landscape around us. I interact intuitively with color and make my own paint so I can achieve the exact hue, transparency, thickness and sheen that I want. Thinning down my paint so that the history of layers are visible is a vital part of my process. Like seeing the clouds when looking through the leaves of trees, the layers give my work space and depth.
