Jon Phillippi
Zeitgeist is excited to be working with the Friends Life Community to present work by local artist, Jonathan (Jon) Phillippi.
Jon allows his artwork to be a form of communication and to share a window into his creative, sometimes mischievous, often playful mind.
His paintings embrace imagination, process, and chance. Using highly watery paints, he lets the paint flow, as colors swirl and seep into one another. He often uses black, hinting at mystery and intrigue. He loves to “get messy” in art, coating his hands in paint to feel the experience of expression. But “messy” his paintings are not, as they exude elegance and the calm of a traveling drop of rain on a windowpane. Jon also utilizes the medium of sculpture to express playfulness and a curious dichotomy between minimalism and obsession. His sculptural work bundles beads, wire, and other found objects to create a counterpoint to his paintings that embrace color and whimsy. Altogether, Jon’s work is a contemplation of both the natural and
the supernatural, taking us to a realm beyond this one.
