Hans + Gieves/Cross-Reference
Zeitgeist is featuring is photo/painting duo, Hans + Gieves; Hans Schmitt-Matzen, a painter/printmaker and Gieves a photographer. Hans and Gieves collaborate on abstract compositions that incorporate photography and painting (photographs printed on canvas and then painted on/re-photographed/painted again, etc.) in exquisite-corpse fashion. Central theme of the new work will be images shot in friend's library with very contemporary, architectural and design references. Hans Schmitt-Matzen is an exhibition designer for the Frist Center for Visual Arts and MTSU graduate. Gieves (also an MTSU grad.) works in the international fashion industry.
