Exhibiting Artist:
Richard Painter
Exhibit Description:
Still Alive
Zeitgeist is pleased to present new works by Richard Painter. Painter, who currently resides in Smithville, Tennessee, has exhibited in Atlanta, Santa Fe, New Orleans, Los Angeles, Germany, Switzerland and Israel.

Many are familiar with his charred wood pieces produced by burning wood panel surfaces with a welding torch leaving an image masked by a flame retardant. The process alludes to a transformation that might occur over the passage of time or a memory that might be indelibly burned into the mind. The latest images explore the time honored tradition of the still-life. Scenes of “the Bountiful Table” carry an added sense of the fleeting moments of the present and the inevitability of demise.

Richard Painter’s work can be found in the private collections of the CEO of Coca-Cola, the Vice President of Turner Broadcasting, and the President of American General as well as the Tennessee State Museum. Richard work can currently be seen in the traveling exhibit Tennessean 2000 Collection and Exhibition, Installations at Cheekwood Fine Art Museum, and Open Show 99 at the Oak Ridge Fine Arts Museum where he received the Top Multi Media Award.

Gallery hours are 11AM to 5AM Tuesday through Saturday. For more information please call Janice Zeitlin or Lain York at 615-256-4805.
