| New Work from the Segment Series |
Heath Seymour continues his exploration with "New Work from the Segment Series". The new canvases are characterized by split screens of abstracted forms as stratified layers. The idea is that of two seemingly disparate objects or ideas coming together to form a new association. Some of the objects and abstracted forms refer to things from by-gone eras that have since been replaced with more efficient or modern versions. These elements function as artifacts that have been preserved in the subconscious strata. The artist as archeologist excavates these artifacts and presents them as things we are all familiar with, have grown up with, and have made us what we are.
"To take two separate issues and put them together in a new way is the basis for creativity and learning. As we go through life we all have different combinations of countless events. These individualized events come together throughout our lives to shape who we are today." |
