Andy Harding/Flux
The latest suite of work by Nashville-based sculptor Andy Harding is titled Flux. Harding’s exhibition will feature freestanding and wall-mounted sculpture in wood and steel. As these two somewhat opposing materials, one of nature and one of industry, might suggest, Harding’s latest endeavors examine a collection of seemingly contradictory concepts and in the artist’s words, “attempt to make them at home with one another.”

“One idea is nature and necessity in consort, and with that a host of complementary relationships: smooth and coarse, finished and unfinished, growth and decay, logic and intuition, balance and imbalance, stillness and motion, matter and spirit…all of them in flux…all absorbed in an ebb and flow with one another in nature and in the manmade.”

Andy Harding’s work first appeared in “Switchyard III,” a Zeitgeist three-part introductory exhibition in the summer of 2002. Harding is a 1997 graduate of Belmont University, where he majored in Chemistry as a Presidential Scholar. He will be teaching a sculpture seminar at Belmont later this fall.
