Dwelling
"Dwelling" is the title of Johan Hagaman’s latest body of work. It speaks of an actual edifice or shelter and the active process of living one’s life. Her cast concrete and found object pieces have been inspired by African carvings which are used as prayers and sacrificial altars (dwellings of the gods) where one could place a special belonging as a gift or invocation to the spirits. The idea is that of "a summoning of the spirit within" in an effort to know what it means to be "at home with yourself."
