Recent Work- Pinkney Herbert
Pinkney Herbert has been a fixture in the Memphis artist community for years as a painter and a prime motivator behind artist-run spaces such as Marshall Arts Center, Delta Axis, and The Powerhouse. His latest paintings and drawings reference landscape and floral elements and continue to rely on an intuitive approach to painting that in his words:

“...is an emotional and symbolic response to the figurative structures I find in real and imagined worlds. I want to be charged with the sound and energy I experience throughout nature. I like the notion of X-ray vision, peeling away the layers to see inside, trying to get to the essence.”

Pinkney Herbert received his BA from Rhodes College and his MFA from the University of Memphis. He has taught at the University of Memphis, University of Tennessee, and Helsinki Academy of Fine Arts, Penland School of Crafts, and the Memphis University School. He has also been a visiting artist at the Prague Academy of Fine Arts, Hanoi University of Fine Arts, and the Oberfalzer Kuntzlerhaus (Germany) and is the recipient of fellowships from the National Endowment for the Arts, the Tennessee Arts Commission, and the Virginia Center for the Creative Arts.
